Tips From Dr. Tyler

A prosthodontist is a dentist who has completed dental school plus three additional years of advanced training and education in an ADA-accredited prosthodontic graduate program. They specialize in treating and handling dental and facial problems that involve restoring missing tooth and jaw structures. A prosthodontist is highly trained in cosmetics, dental implants, crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures, temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD), and more.

Your trip to the dentist shouldn’t only be for emergencies. Routine checkups by the dental hygienist are important as well. Not only does your hygienist keep your smile clean and bright, they also check for issues like tooth decay, gum disease, and other issues that may occur.

Have you ever found yourself nervous about your dental appointment? If so, you’re not the only one. Approximately 10-15% of Americans suffer with some type of anxiety or fear towards visiting the dentist. There are many reasons why people may fear the dentist.

Before we discuss the signs of a cavity, let’s talk about what a cavity is. A cavity is tooth decay that softens your tooth’s enamel. The damage of the tooth is caused by acids that are created by plaque bacteria as they ferment sugars within drinks, food, and snacks. The acid eats away at the tooth, eventually causing irreversible damage to your tooth. Cavities cannot heal themselves and do not go away over time. In fact, it only gets worse until treated by a dentist. There are signs to determine whether you are indeed suffering from a developing cavity.
