Malocclusion is a condition where teeth are not aligned properly in your mouth. If left untreated, malocclusion can lead to gum disease and can create stress on your teeth and jaws. Aligners treat patients who have minor, moderate, and severe malocclusion. The different types of malocclusion and other issues are:

  • Crowding – not enough room for teeth
  • Spacing – gaps between teeth
  • Overbite – protruding upper teeth
  • Underbite – protruding lower front teeth
  •  Edge to edge bite – upper and lower front teeth hit edge to edge
  • Open bite – vertical spacing between upper and lower front teeth
  • Deep bite – upper front teeth hiding lower teeth
  • Cross bite – lateral misalignment of a tooth or teeth

Dr. Tyler is a certified Invisalign provider and can identify whether Invisalign is the best treatment option for your dental needs. Invisalign treatment can fix issues with malocclusion. Treatment includes a series of custom-made clear aligners created specifically for your teeth. The material used to create the aligners are virtually invisible plastic that are worn over your teeth.

Wearing your aligners during the recommended time will gradually shift your teeth into place. There are no wires or brackets involved, instead you will be provided with a new set of aligners every two weeks until your treatment is complete. You will visit your doctor every four to six weeks to monitor the progression of your teeth. The average time for treatment is one year. Because the aligners are removable, you can remove them when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, otherwise leave them in to ensure you are getting the most out of your aligners.
